To Members of Local 320 I will be providing you, the members of Mail Handlers,
Local 320 a daily update on our National Convention. It is my
hope to summarize each day's events that you the members of Mail Handlers, Local
320 will stay informed on the events taking place here in
Orlando, Florida during this convention.
- Today August 11, 2008 we had our opening ceremonies and all the Local President's across our nation were introduced, then our officers on the National Executive Board were introduced (including Local President and Western Regional Vice-President, our own President Rudy Santos. The National Executive Board also honored former Western Regional Vice-President Efraim Daniel and former Central Regional Vice-President Hardy Williams.
- This was followed by the Invocation, and next came the Report of the Credentials Committee. This committee certifies each delegate and insures the Delegates are properly seated for this convention.
- The Election Committee came next and they explained the rules for the election of the election committee for the National Officer Election which starts with nominations for the National Executive Board by the Delegates. In other words, the Election Committee oversees the election of the election committee for National Officers. The Nominations followed and the Delegates nominated for the Elections Committee are as follows: James Bell, J. Dudley, Woody Hendrikson, Rory Albright, Carolyn Little, Frank Rojas, Larry Karsten, Local 320's Susanna Paniagua, Thomas Ruth, and Liberty Velasco.
- Following these Nominations, the Rules Committee, chaired by Eastern Regional Vice-President Paul Hogrogrian, presented the Report of the Rules Committee. These Rules govern the conduct of the business of the Convention and we voted on each of the 31 proposed rules and adopted them into the record for this Convention.
- The day concluded with the election of the Election Committee, which is expected to take the remainder of the day.
- There are 360 Delegates to this convention and we look forward to presentations from the remaining committees as well as, spirited debate, followed by voting from the floor on all the proposals to our Union's Constitution.
Please watch your Bulletin Boards for daily updates; I
will also be having these updates posted on our Union website daily.
